Placing sustainability at the center of all its activities, Akbank once again emphasized its commitment to its net zero strategy by providing 100 million dollars green financing for Enerjisa Enerji Üretim's 750MW wind power plant (WPP) investment.
In his statement on the subject, Akbank General Manager Kaan Gür said: ‘As Akbank, we have a target of providing 800 billion TL sustainable financing until 2030. In this context, as of the third quarter of 2024, we have reached 352 billion TL. We are proud to sign another transaction that underlines our determination in this area with the green financing of 100 million dollars we provided to Enerjisa Üretim.’
Gür continued his statements as follows: ‘As of 2016, in the field of power generation, we only financed renewable energy projects. We focused on capacity increase, hybrid and self-consumption power plant investments to reduce external dependency on energy. Today, the share of renewable energy in Akbank's energy investment portfolio has reached 76%. We will continue to invest in Turkey's economic and environmental future with our innovative and sustainable financing solutions.’
With a total financing amount of USD 1 billion, the WPP project is being carried out with the support of Akbank and major financial institutions such as U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), Proparco, JPMorgan, HSBC, KfW IPEX-Bank and Deutsche Investitions. The power plants planned to be built in Aydın, Balıkesir and Çanakkale regions are expected to generate 2.51 TWh of electricity per year. The investment aims to increase Turkey's renewable energy capacity, develop domestic production in renewable energy technologies and increase employment. This investment of Enerjisa Enerji Üretim is also of great importance in terms of being realised within the scope of the YEKA RES-2 Model of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey.
